Brigade of Love: A Display Font for Modern Web Design

I was working on a new creative portfolio site for a client who wanted something bold but approachable. The first thing I did was test a few display fonts, and Brigade of Love immediately stood out. It has that thick lettered feel that grabs attention without being overwhelming. It’s friendly yet adaptable, which made me think it could work well in a variety of contexts—especially for a designer looking to make a strong visual statement.

Brigade of Love is a display font with a unique character. Its thick strokes give it a sense of strength, while the rounded edges and soft curves add a touch of warmth. It doesn’t feel too rigid or too casual, making it versatile enough to fit into different design styles. This kind of balance is rare in display fonts, which often lean too heavily into one direction—either too edgy or too whimsical.

I decided to place Brigade of Love in the hero section of the portfolio. The headline read “Creative Projects,” and the font delivered exactly what I needed. It felt modern and professional, yet still had that human touch that makes it easy to connect with. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for the supporting text, which helped maintain readability without clashing with the display type.

One thing I noticed right away was how well Brigade of Love performed on mobile screens. Even when scaled down, the letters remained legible and didn’t lose their character. That’s important because many display fonts can become illegible at smaller sizes, especially on high-resolution screens. Brigade of Love handled this well, which made it a solid choice for responsive layouts.

As I moved through the rest of the layout, I considered where else Brigade of Love could be used. For example, it worked beautifully as a section heading for the client’s latest projects. It also looked great on call-to-action buttons, like “View More” or “Contact Me.” The font’s personality shone through even in these smaller elements, adding a consistent tone across the entire site.

I experimented with using Brigade of Love in image overlays and banner sections. When placed over a dark background, it maintained its contrast and readability. On light backgrounds, it still stood out thanks to its bold weight. This flexibility meant I could use it in multiple areas of the site without worrying about it looking out of place.

Font pairing is always an important consideration, and Brigade of Love made this easier than I expected. By using a simple sans serif font for body copy, I created a clear distinction between the display and supporting text. This helped guide the user’s eye naturally from the headline to the details, improving overall readability and scanning behavior.

I also checked the available styles and weights. Brigade of Love comes with several variations, which allowed me to adjust the tone based on the context. For instance, a lighter version worked well for subheadings, while the bolder style was perfect for headlines. This range gave me more control over the visual hierarchy and made it easier to build a polished brand experience.

When designing for online stores or course sales pages, typography plays a big role in building trust and professionalism. Brigade of Love added that extra layer of polish without feeling too formal. It helped create a cohesive brand identity that felt both modern and trustworthy, which is crucial for any digital product or service.

Another thing I considered was the file formats and webfont availability. Since I was building a site that needed to load quickly, I made sure the font files were optimized. Brigade of Love came with all the necessary formats, and I didn’t run into any issues with loading times or compatibility across different browsers.

For designers working on landing pages or campaign sites, Brigade of Love offers a fresh alternative to more traditional display fonts. It works well for branding elements, promotional banners, and even social media graphics. Its adaptability means it can be used in both editorial and commercial contexts, making it a valuable asset for any digital project.

Before finalizing the font choice, I made sure to review the licensing options. Since the client would be using it across multiple platforms, including their website and marketing materials, a commercial license was necessary. Brigade of Love offered clear licensing terms, which gave me confidence that we could use it without any legal concerns.

Overall, Brigade of Love proved to be a reliable and versatile display font. It brought a unique personality to the portfolio site while maintaining readability and usability across different screen sizes and layouts. Whether you’re designing a boutique store, a coaching website, or a course landing page, this font has the potential to elevate your brand’s visual presence without sacrificing functionality.
